A global perspective and local insight

Appointing a new senior executive who will have the power to make crucial decisions for your organisation, is one of the greatest challenges all leadership teams face. The importance of ensuring the right person for the right role is secured at the right time for the business cannot be understated.

But at a time when job migration is at an all-time low, combined with the increasingly international nature of commerce, finding the executive talent that your business really needs means spreading the net wider than ever before and looking beyond borders. This isn’t anything new of course, but the pace and scale with which organisations are having to extend their talent networks outside of their home markets has never been greater.

Indeed, when Maranello was founded some 20 years and more ago, it was clear to see how the internet was beginning to transform the way business was being done. It soon became evident that the way in which search firms and employers alike find the senior talent would be reimagined too.

From the outset, just as the dot com boom was coming to fruition, we provided high level executive search solutions to businesses throughout the EMEA and internationally. Few recruitment businesses at that time took this approach, and because of this we quickly outperformed many of our closest and more established competitors whose focus remained fixed on their home markets. While the potential growth opportunities for UK-based recruitment and executive search firms on an international stage was evident to see at this time, few acted upon it.

For a long time, recruiters committed to seeing both clients and candidates in person when discussing a specific role. While this is to be commended and accepted as sound business practice, it is equally limiting and risks the employer losing out on a much larger talent pool – one that has no geographical restrictions.

It took for the pandemic for a change in approach (and mindset) to happen among employers and the recruitment industry. Only now are many starting to see and fully embrace the opportunities presented by having a disparate candidate base; bigger picture thinking has become more prevalent than ever before.

But before the world changed (and we don’t see a return to ‘how things were’ anytime soon), Maranello had already secured first-mover advantage over other firms because we entered the international talent market much sooner than many. The decision to develop comprehensive networks across a diverse range of businesses and nation states has certainly benefited us, our clients, and the candidates we work with in several ways.

Firstly, it has firmly established Maranello as a specialist leader in international mid and senior-level executive search within niche high-tech industry sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, transportation and logistics, life sciences, and retail.

Secondly, by remaining deliberately boutique, our team can provide in-depth support for clients (and candidates) that offers a global perspective and access to local networks and, crucially, knowledge across all major markets worldwide to enable them to make better hiring decisions.

Brexit and the global pandemic have conspired to prompt a rethink as to how organisations secure the senior talent they need. The war for talent has been raging for several years, but it is beginning to intensify. Employers must pull out all the stops to ensure they retain their position as an employer of choice by recognising that great talent can often be found in places they have never searched before.
